John·The Father·13 of 34

I and the Father are one

I and my Father are one.

John 10:30 · King James Version

The speaking self and the Source are not two beings negotiating. They are one life.

An inner reading

This is among the shortest sayings, and it drew stones. It still unsettles, because it refuses the picture of a distant God and a lonely representative. Oneness is not a mood of closeness. It is identity of life: the Father’s life as the Son’s life, without confusion of personhood into a blur and without a gap of separation.

A metaphysical reading does not say “your ego and God are the same.” The ego is the sense of a life apart — precisely what oneness undoes. Christ speaks from the other side of that sense. The invitation is to notice that the deepest I in you is not the biography. It is the one Life, conscious of itself. Reverence remains. What falls away is the idea that God is an object over against you.
