Matthew·Light·6 of 34

The pure in heart

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

Matthew 5:8 · King James Version

God is seen by a heart that is no longer looking through a second motive.

An inner reading

Purity is not a spotless moral record. A heart is pure when it is unmixed — when the motive and the act are the same substance, when perception is not dyed by what the self hopes to extract. The impure heart can be religious and still not see, because it is looking for advantage, proof, or superiority.

“They shall see God” names a capacity, not a prize ceremony. What is simple sees simply. The divine is not hidden by distance. It is hidden by mixture: fear braided into love, performance braided into prayer. As the braid loosens, seeing happens. God was not absent. The lens was crowded.
