Matthew·The kingdom within·5 of 34
Seek first
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
Matthew 6:33–34 · King James Version
Anxiety is attention spent on a day that does not exist. The kingdom is in the day that does.
An inner reading
“Take no thought” is not a command to be careless. It is a diagnosis of anxious rehearsal: the mind trying to live tomorrow inside today, and so living neither. What is added — food, clothing, the plain support of a life — is added to a consciousness already ordered, not bargained out of a consciousness in panic.
Righteousness, metaphysically, is right-relation: the mind aligned with the kingdom rather than with its fears. Seek that first and the secondary things find their size. They were never the source. They were echoes. Tomorrow’s evil can be met by tomorrow’s presence. Today only asks for today.
