Luke·The kingdom within·1 of 34
The kingdom within
The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
Luke 17:20–21 · King James Version
The kingdom is not a destination you approach. It is the order of God, recognized within.
An inner reading
Observation looks outward for a realm that can be pointed at — a place, a date, a sign in the sky. Christ refuses the pointing. The kingdom does not arrive by being watched for. It is already the interior order of God, nearer than the thought that searches for it.
The Greek behind “within you” can also be read “in your midst,” and that honesty matters. Either way the saying pulls the kingdom off the horizon and into presence: among you, in you, not on a map. To seek it is not to travel. It is to stop locating God at a distance, and to let the mind rest in what is already here.
